Salient Points to Remember

  1. Date of Birth (23 December 1889), Kangra District, Himachal Pradesh.

  2. He was nominee of Indian National Congress in Radcliffe Commission (Punjab Commission) that defined the boundaries of India and Pakistan.

  3. He was the Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir (October 1947 – March 1948) on the recommendation of Sardar Patel during the reign of Maharaja Hari Singh and played a key role in the accession of J&K to India.

  4. Appointed as one of first Judge of Supreme Court in 1948.

  5. He took office as the third Chief Justice of India on 4 January 1954.

  6. He published a famous Book: ” Looking Back”.
